Scott Solid Waste Board meeting. The public is invited to express desire that the board submit an amendment to their April 2025 annual report to TDEC in the form of a letter stating that they do not see the need for a new landfill as proposed adjacent the already operational landfill in Oneida.
The current landfill has sufficient useful life to it to support the waste management needs of Scott County for several decades. A new landfill proposed adjacent to the current landfill is based on plans to import waste by rail from areas far beyond Scott County and therefore does not meet the local needs in any way. Further, the proposal for a new landfill violates the policy of the board stating that any new landfill must be built no closer than 50 miles of an existing one.
